Education and Career

We are used to interpret the relation between education and career as the relation between receiving training and work. For we depend on being ready to perform particular skills in order to make a living. However, the transformation of the labor market, being more than just a side effect of the digital age, requires us to reevaluate the relation between receiving training and work. One option in this regard is to emphasize education in terms of Bildung by which we are able to understand the complexity of the new world of work, to act flexible, and to conduct our lives in between work and spare time. It is not always the case that doing a job is following one’s calling. The more important it is to make use of knowledge and competences practically beyond the work by which we make a living.
